It was the most comfortable of all, partly because the battery sits at the back of your head, balancing the weight of the light strapped to your forehead. I found the slim design (9mm) sat comfortably flat and securely on my forehead without digging in, and the straps were easily adjustable for a snug fit. Seven of the 3.5 x 2.8 mm LED packages show around 18 V of forward drop when driven with 50 mA, indicating that they contain six LED dice in series. One LED on the board shows a drop of 9 V, so it has only three LED chips. All the LEDs, totaling 45 dice, are wired in series to drop approximately 135V.

The Aria does have some good features, with its luminaire element being one of its best. Momentum says its dual floodlights produce a combined 5,000 lumens of brightness. That’s brighter by far than both the Maximus Camera Floodlight (2,400 lumens) and the Ring Floodlight Cam (3,000 lumens). Those LEDs can also be dimmed for parties. Unfortunately, the stiffness of the ball joints on the Aria’s floodlights will likely prevent you from aiming the light precisely where you need it. The same goes for the camera, which I couldn’t position so that it would capture even the profile of a person standing in front of the front door of the house I tested it at. When shorter people came up the steps to the door, I could see only the tops of their heads.

SPORT mode unlocks boost from the hybrid system for improved acceleration response. ECO mode gets maximum efficiency from the fuel and battery, while NORMAL mode is ideal for everyday driving.

The blue LED was one that had its lens knocked off, probably loosened when I dropped the lamp years ago. As I tugged on the PCB trying to take it apart, several other lenses fell off (Fig. 4). The lenses must hold the phosphors that change the blue light to white. The fluted base is metal, probably zinc, to conduct heat out of the LED PCB.

With the meteoric rise in LED lighting, look for fluorescent lighting to become obsolete for most of its previous uses. LEDs are lighter, more versatile, cheaper and provide vibrant illumination.

In the event of a power failure lighting will be provided by Ikon Emergency high-level and low-level lights mounted on the sides of the wayfinding totems and vertical luminaires mounted on the front faces. Each emergency system is 35 000 lumens or 230 W, compared to 200 lumens or 5 W for typical emergency lighting in an office. Power will be supplied from a 230 V generator.
